A police officer who was responding to a call was shocked when he saw the passenger door of a car driving in front of him swing open and a man jumped out.

The Skagit County Jail Coordinating Council voted tentatively Friday to build a new county jail, if voters agree to tax increases. The council, made up of mayors, judges and county commissioners, voted 7-1, with Burlington Mayor Steve Sexton voting no.

In an unusual split vote, the City Council approved what the city called minor title and date changes to the city's Comprehensive Plan. But, the plan changes drew criticism from the audience during a public hearing and resistance from three Council members.

The City Council has okayed a $65,000 contract with Reichhardt & Ebe Engineering of Lynden to start design work on a planned roundabout at the corner of 22nd St and R Ave. It would be the city's second roundabout.

The City Council Tuesday extended the interim regulations over adult concessions and adopted an extended work plan. The Council's earlier work plan had work on a permanent ordinance finishing up this months, but the extension gives the Council through June.

The arrest last Monday of a 19-year-old Anacortes man with the entire left side of his face covered with a black marker drawing of male genitalia must have caused some chuckles at the Police Station.
