High wind, combined with a high tide, last Friday night and Saturday morning damaged parts of the Guemes Trail underpinnings, forcing the trail to be closed while repairs are being made.

The Community Christmas Tree, a 30 foot hemlock, was cut Wednesday morning, then delivered and set up in front of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce office Wednesday afternoon in anticipation of the annual tree lighting on Friday night.

 Santa made a special appearance Tuesday night... just for kids at the library.

Over the coming year, the city will launch an ambitious program to replace all current street lights with newer LED streetlights at a cost of just over $200,000.

This month, Anacortes Schools Foundation will again present “Celebrate the Season,” a family-oriented series of holiday activities that complement other community holiday events.
