The annual Anacortes Salmon Derby, scheduled for late March, has been cancelled as Derby organizers received the official announcement of a severe curtailment of opportunity in the area around the San Juan Islands called Marine Area 7.

The long-anticipated "Aerie" sculpture by Merrillee Moore is scheduled to be installed at the Commercial Ave. roundabout this Saturday, with a dedication coming two weeks later.

Ana Anacortes resident was stung by a scam that didn’t involve the Internet when he responded to a letter telling him he had won a $1.5 million jackpot.  Instead of winning, he lost almost $5,000.

Anacortes Police cited a driver for driving under the influence, then three hours later, according to police, he found his car in a tow yard and drove off. Then, he was was cited for DUI again.

The City Public Works Department has announced the upcoming closure to the Guemes Channel Trail at the Edwards Way Cul-de-Sac.

Skagit County Commissioners have established a new, 23-member health advisory panel whose purpose is to provide “a permanent ongoing forum and structure to assess, plan and provide strategies and direction on how to improve the population health in Skagit County.”
