Law enforcement moved in at dawn Sunday morning to end an encampment on the Burlington-to-Anacortes rail line servicing the March's Point refineries, but protests continued on Fidalgo Bay and on March’s Point.

More than 1,000 demonstrators participated in a march on March's Point Saturday, according to leaders of the three-day protest to convince people to reduce dependence on oil. 

At the end of the day, a team of protesters with Break Free, which is staging protests at the two refineries on March's Point, blocked the rail line leading to the two refineries, but the protest is some five miles from March's Point.

The Anacortes Police Department says the Tommy Thompson Trestle will be closed to bicycles Friday 6AM to Monday 6AM due to heavy pedestrian traffic because of an anti-fossil fuel demonstration. And, APD says no bridges on Highway 20 will be closed this weekend.

Traffic delays and congestion are likely near Anacortes this weekend as thousands of people plan to gather in protest of fossil fuel use, according to a news release from the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management.
