Ever heard of a quasquicentennial? Well, Anacortes had that anniversary on Thursday, May 19, when the City celerated the 125th anniversary of its incorporation.

The City Council has voted in favor of lowering the speed limit on the 40-mile per hour section of Oakes Ave. to 30 miles per hour.

Mayor Gere said that last weekend’s anti-fossil fuel demonstration left, “a bit of fear and skepticism” causing a lighter than usual Saturday in downtown Anacortes.

An Anacortes Police sergeant clocked a driver at over 90 miles per hours heading towards town on highway 20. 

Law enforcement moved in at dawn Sunday morning to end an encampment on the Burlington-to-Anacortes rail line servicing the March's Point refineries, but protests continued on Fidalgo Bay and on March’s Point.

More than 1,000 demonstrators participated in a march on March's Point Saturday, according to leaders of the three-day protest to convince people to reduce dependence on oil.
