The Noon Kiwanis Club celebrated giving $2 million to the community on Saturday with a block party that included free hot dogs and cake.

Police dealt with a very unusual case this week when an Anacortes told police he was hearing emergency broadcasts in his head and he said the FBI told him to call the police.

Despite 100 inches of new snow that has fallen since the effort to reopen the North Cascades Highway began 3-1/2 weeks ago, WSDOT maintenance crews opened the gates on SR 20 to traffic at noon on Friday. 

A small group of protestors, numbering fewer than 2-dozen shortly after noon, showed up at 12th & Commercial Thursday to protest taxes on this April 15 when federal income tax returns are due. 

The city Planning Commission has given its blessing to MJB’s proposal to build a commercial boat launch ramp and a 350-foot floating dock just south of Anacortes Marina. 

A crew is working on installing new trusses along the part of the trestle across Fidalgo Bay that was damaged by a fire last October. Installation of new decking could start as early as a few days from now.
