Registration is now open for the eight afternoon and three evening classes being offered by Anacortes Senior College for its spring term, which starts on April 16.

The state is launching a new campaign to look for drunk drivers next week. They warn, St. Patrick’s Day is quickly approaching and with that comes the increased risk of someone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 

If weather cooperates, it might not take a full six weeks to clear the North Cascades Highway this year, according to the state Transportation Department. The spring reopening effort will begin a few days after the first day of spring as it has for the last half-dozen years, but there's some optimism that SR 20 could be open before the first of May, this year.

More than a dozen potential political candidates listened Wednesday morning as as another half-dozen political officeholders told of their experience running for office. The Skagit Business Alliance staged the 90-minute session to help educate people who were thinking of running for office.

On Friday, March 8, 2013 between the hours of 8:30 am and 12:30 pm, the City of Anacortes Public Works Engineering Department will be conducting potholing activities at the intersection of 22nd Street and R Avenue.

The community Monday night got the first chance to hear from the first of three candidates to replace School Superintendent Chris Borgen. Attendance was light, mostly school staffers, to hear from Mark Wenzel, who is currently Superintendent of the Methow Valley School District.
