A man dancing in the middle of Commercial Ave near 23^rd Street caught the attention of a police officer this week.

Anacortes Police are looking for this person in connection with the passing of counterfeit bills here earlier this week.

A 27-year old Anacortes man was arrested and transported to jail early Saturday morning, May 27, after an APD Officer stopped him for speeding on Q Avenue.

The Anacortes Waterfront Festival, this Saturday and Sunday, has something for everyone: an open-air car show, food vendors, arts and craft booths, children’s activities, giant slides, water balls, dinners and dances, live music and entertainment, wine and beer garden, and so much more.

The Anacortes Schools Foundation handed out 74 scholarships to graduating seniors and former graduates during a ceremony on May 31 at Brodniak Hall. The scholarships, worth more than $160,000, are due to generous donations from the community, according to the foundation.

Something new is happening in downtown Anacortes this Friday. In the spirit of bringing the community together, two local events, Open Streets and First Friday Artwalks, are joining forces to create a “Street Plaza” setting on Commercial Avenue between 4th Street and 6th Street.

The Cabana by Anthony’s has been awarded the Port of Anacortes’ Economic Development Partner Award for 2017. The award ceremony will be taking place on June 2, 2017 at the Waterfront Festival Dinner at the Port’s Transit Shed Event Center.

The city of Anacortes has picked up one of the top three Governor's Smart Communities Awards for the city's Comprehensive Planning efforts.
