A 67-year-old man was treated and released at Island Hospital after he was bitten by a seal as he walked on the dock at a local marina.

Due to extended warm dry weather and extreme fire danger, a ban on recreational fires is in effect for the City of Anacortes.

(Updated) A citizen turned in a small parakeet to APD after finding him in the Storvik Park area this week.  Police and Municipal Court staff are enjoying the bird’s company while waiting for an owner to identify him.  

It might be a few miles from the Anacortes shorefront to the fairgrounds in south Mount Vernon, but this island community contributes in significant ways to the annual Skagit County Fair.

(Updated) An out-of-state driver who was spotted using his cell phone while driving on Commercial Ave. ended up with a whole slew of other changes, including the use of ‘borrowed’ license plates.
