Officials gathered today to help break ground on a major redevelopment of Dakota Creek Industries shipyard at Pier 1.

This week's Northwest Bestsellers list includes four Northwest authors. Back this week are: The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein; The Other by David Guterson; and, Snuff, by Chuck Palahniuk. And Mary Dahiem's Scots on the Rocks is on the list, too.

The Port of Anacortes has released an updated draft Comprehensive Plan that will guide the Port District for the next few years. The plan includes few surprises. 

A county-wide burn ban goes into effect for unincorporated areas on Thursday, July 17, due to the high fire danger and dry weather. A spokesman for the Anacortes Fire Department says the burn ban applies in the City of Anacortes, too.

The City is launching a ride share contest in an effort to get Anacortes residents to save energy. The prize? Tell the city where to spend $1,000.
