The state health department has temporarily closed Samish Bay for commercial and recreational shellfish harvest due to the greater than 200 cubic feet per second rise in the river level.

Police arrested an Anacortes man in connection with an hour-long beating of a 13-year-old boy. The suspect said he had just been “trying to teach the boy some respect.”
Update: Police have located this vehicle and the driver has been arrested. The Anacortes Police Department is investigating a Commercial Burglary that took place on Marches Pt. Road inside the city. A male subject has been identified that was driving the following vehicle during the commission of the crime.
School Superintendent Chris Borgen has announced his decision to retire next summer, saying he "made the difficult announcement that for personal, professional and family reasons, and with the best interest of the students and staff of Anacortes School District in mind, I will be retiring at the end of the school year."
