Thursday, November 8 at 1:15pm, the Shell Puget Sound Refinery will hold their annual “Level III Evacuation Drill." The exercise will involve 10 cycles of the “wildcat” siren. This is the same siren that you usually hear on Wednesdays at noon, but it will be repeated 10 times.

State Representatives Jeff Morris and Kris Lytton are calling on Gov. Chris Gregoire to establish a multi-agency task force to identify the statewide economic, transportation, and environmental impact of a proposed coal terminal near Bellingham. 

The increased tax levy for the Fidalgo Pool & Fitness Center is leading in early voting results by a 79% to 21% margin. Also, Incumbent County Commissioner Ron Wesen has an early lead over challenger Nick Petrish and fellow County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt is leading challenger April Axthelm, both by narrow margins. 

Congressman Rick Larsen and friends took over the 4 corners at 12th St. and Commercial Ave. late Tuesday morning as they wave campaign signs. Larsen expressed optimism that he'll be re-elected. 

The city will be building a new playground on 28th St, just west of Q Ave and one of the features is this 10-foot tall piece of playground equipment called a Performer Dome by the manufacturer Kompan. Yes, playground equipment has changed over the years.

The Anacortes Yacht Club will be able to add a 1,500 square foot addition to their clubhouse, thanks to action taken Monday night by the City Council, which followed a site visit earlier in the evening.
