In a daring daytime burglary, a man kicked in the door of an occupied home in the 800 block of 32nd Street at about 9:45 Thursday morning. He stole two sets of keys and a $50.00 bill before fleeing on foot.

An employee of McBride's Hallmark shop handles one of the last customers before the shop's closing at 6pm on the day after Christmas. Rhonda Kelly is one of a half-dozen employees who will be looking for work soon, once the store's inventory is packed up and shipped out.

Chief Bowers does not routinely work street patrol, but on one afternoon last week, the Chief spotted a woman with an arrest warrant in an alley behind a home on 4th Street. She contacted the woman and took her in to custody as other other officers responded to the area.
A Pacific storm will bring snow to the mountains on Christmas day... with snow possible even on the lowlands. The mountains will generally pick up 4 to 8 inches of new snow. Snowfall amounts across the lowlands are expected to be less than 2 inches but there could be localized higher amounts.
Police are investigating the theft of a gold nugget pendant valued at over $5,000 from a business in the 600 block of Commercial Ave this week. On Monday, Dec. 17, while the owners had been in their office momentarily, a woman entered the store, opened a jewelry display case and stole the pendant. The investigation is ongoing.

After Jan. 1, new driver exams will no longer be offered at state Department of Licensing offices in Anacortes or Mount Vernon.
