The city has awarded the contract to Larry Brown Construction, Inc. for the upgrade five of ADA curb ramps and the replacement of a portion of downtown sidewalks in about 45 locations to eliminate sidewalk trip hazards, with an emphasis on those caused by street tree roots.

A 40-year-old Anacortes man was arrested and charged with theft after stealing a gallon of milk from a convenience store on 12th Street early Sunday morning.

A second Skagit County resident has died from laboratory-confirmed influenza.  Skagit County Public Health received notification that the man, in his 30s, died in late January from complications related to both pneumonia and influenza. 

The two Anacortes school levies appear to be passing with more than 60 percent approval in early vote counts.
