Lovelett, 33, promises to bring an energy and enthusiasm for education, families, and local commerce to the City Council. She says she looks forward to working collaboratively with city and county agencies, citizens, and nonprofits utilizing her strong communication skills, ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and her experience in the private and public sectors.
“With four generations of my family living in town, as a homeowner, and as a mother of young children, I have a vested interest in the long-term growth, economic stability, and flourishing natural environment on Fidalgo Island,” Lovelett said. “It is very important to me to be actively involved in our community and to help out where I can make the biggest impact, the City Council.”
Lovelett has been a co-curricular instructor in art and drama with the Anacortes School District’s After School Arts Program for nearly a decade.
“Liz has the ability to work with students of varied academic levels and the dedication to work with the needs of the diverse learner,” said Tina Martin, the school district’s Cultural Education Director. “Parents often comment on her passion and commitment to our students.” Lovelett also volunteers as President of the Whitney PTA and Vice President of the Anacortes Farmers Market Board of Directors.
Lovelett is perhaps best known for her time as owner of The Business from 2005 to 2010. “Liz at the Biz” nurtured a cultural hub for Anacortes, using her storefront to showcase local musicians, authors, and artists.
Lovelett graduated with honors simultaneously from Anacortes High School and Skagit Valley College in 1998. She then served with Americorps NCCC, educating youth across the nation on substance abuse, violence, poverty, and racism.
Liz married Jensen Lovelett, Vice President of logistics and purchasing at Provitro Biosciences in Mount Vernon, in 2002. They have two daughters, ages 3 and 5.
