Jazz Lecture Series

Jazz musician Dmitri Matheny presents The Rise and Fall of Chet Baker, one of the stars of West Coast cool jazz in the 1950's and early 1960's. Possessing a golden ear, amazing chops and movie star looks, trumpeter Baker was worn down by bad luck and drugs but still created jazz masterpieces and vocal albums that are cherished today. Matheny will provide biographical insights, excerpts of Baker's music and videos to trace his rise from his early days of playing with Charlie Parker, to his down days living abroad, and his final triumphant return to the States at the end of his life.
