Library staffer Maria Kilburn has been honored with the Mayor's Award of Merit because of what Mayor Maxwell called her "creativity and outstanding performance." Kilburn was presented the award at Monday's City Council meeting by Acting Mayor Erica Pickett.

Anacortes Police officers have taken a male subject in to custody reference an incident that occurred very early Wednesday morning where a pistol was fired toward an occupied building in the 1100 block of 6th Street.

Over the weekend two fake $100 dollar bills were reported at stores on Commercial Ave. Both are $5 bills "washed" and reprinted as $100s.

A Seattle man who said Anacortes “seemed like a nice place to get away” ended up finding a place in jail after Anacortes Police stopped him and charged him with drunk driving.

“I packed up my whole life. It’s all in storage right now so, if I didn’t make it through selection, I was literally not going back to anything,” said Staff Sgt. Rachel Fischer of the 448th Civil Affairs Battalion based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and resident of Anacortes.
