An Anacortes man was jailed this week after a police officer discovered he had five arrest warrants on him.

Following a long career of public service and leadership, John Small, Chief of Police for the Anacortes Police Department has announced his retirement effect July 1, 2021. 

The school district continues to plan and coordinate with their employee groups about an expanded return for students, using CDC and Washington State guidance that schools can implement 3-foot distancing in classrooms, and maintain 6-foot distancing at other times, such as meal times.

If someone gets a headache or feels a bit under the weather after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, it’s become common to hear them say something like “Oh, it just means my immune system is really working hard.” On the flip side, when people don’t notice any side effects, they sometimes worry the shot isn’t doing its job or their immune system isn’t reacting at all.

The recent national elections — conducted in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic — highlighted difficulties Americans face to register to vote and cast a ballot. But the right to vote can be equally diminished when voters cast a ballot but their voice is diluted by gerrymandering and other means.

The simple answer is that enough remains unknown about covid transmission, post-infection immunity and the threat of emerging variants that masks are still advisable.
