New Orca protection goes into effect

A new law designed to protect Orcas goes into effect Thursday (June 12). The new legislation prohibits boats and vessels from coming within 300 feet of an orca whale.

Consultant: tug not recommended for historical status

A consultant for the Port of Anacortes recommends the abandoned tug Enchantress is not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places or the Washington Heritage Register. 

Motel license suspended

The state has suspended the license of the Holiday Motel. The state Department of Health says the motel, at 2903 Commercial Ave., poses an immediate safety hazard to guests.
