The ferry Elwha had to be towed to the Anacortes ferry terminal after its engines failed near Shaw Island this morning. A smaller ferry will replace the Elwha while repairs are under way.
When it meets tomorrow, the School Board will consider a $28 million proposed budget that deals with decreasing enrollment and increasing costs.
The Anacortes Library is planning to put radio chips in all their books, CDs and DVDs. The Library’s director says the so-called RFID chips, similar to this one, will improve security and convenience.

The Anacortes Police Department has released documents to justify firing a police officer for improper use of a city computer. The 573-page investigative file includes redacted copies of Web sites the officer visited & personal emails.
