Small plane crashes on March's Point

A crew works on salvaging a plane that crashed on March's Point Saturday, in a photo contributed by Steven Koch. The single-engine Cessna aircraft apparently hit power lines, then flipped over and crashed in a cow pasture leased by Skagit County Assessor Don Munks.

"Whiskey Plank" ceremony for new OARS boat

GEMS project to be downsized

The business people planning a hotel-restaurant development on the Guemes Channel are working with the state to downsize their proposal. GEMS had proposed a 32-room inn, a 100-seat restaurant and an 86-seat lounge on an existing pier near D Ave. and Ninth St.

Black smoke was visible over March Point Wednesday afternoon as a result of Tesoro Refinery said was boiler problems, and not a fire, though flames were easily visible from Anacortes.

Council approves Shoreline Plan

A new master plan for the city’s shoreline, four years in the making, has been approved by the City Council. The final draft of the Shoreline Master Program, which will now be sent to the state Department of Ecology for review, will put shoreline regulations into a single document.

Council okays reduced Futures Project funding

The City Council has okayed partial funding of the Anacortes Futures Project, approving just one-half of the $25,000 requested of it by a committee steering the project, aimed at fashioning a vision of Anacortes in the future.
