One turkey and two decent films for the Thanksgiving weekend here. There are good movies in theaters this weekend, but Old Dogs definitely isn’t one of them.

Holiday schedules

Many offices, businesses and most retailers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Most government offices, too. Banks will be closed.

Dock work under way

Crews are working on rebuilding and expanding the width of P-Q dock, at the north end of Cap Sante Marina on Wednesday. The work is part of renovations by the Port of Anacortes. The tent visible near the end of the dock covers boats owned by OARS, the Old Anacortes Rowing & Sailing Society.

Friday, the 13th was unlucky for an 85-year-old woman whose bumper fell off her car when she was involved in a car crash. She left the scene, but she was easy to locate since her license plate was still on the bumper.

The New Moon, the latest in the Twilight Saga leads off this weekend, with a Thursday night opening, for this holiday season. The Blind Side opened Friday and A Christmas Carol is being carried over for another week.

Nov. 20 is the day selected to recognize Island Hospital for its promise of quality service; extensive customer-service training of more than 700 employees, physicians and volunteers; Consumer Reports recognition for excellent communication with patients; and excellent patient care.

Trestle repair cost could go higher

The Mayor says he stands by his $300,000 estimate of the cost of repairing the Tommy Thompson trestle, which was damaged by a fire earlier this fall, but only if volunteers do some of the repair work.
