Two new films in town this Christmas weekend: Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Alvin and the Chipmunks" The Squeakquel. Continuing is the blockbuster Avatar. 

Anacortes property values drop

Assessed property values in Anacortes have dropped, on average, 7.6 percent from one year ago, according to the county Assessor's Office, the first drop since the early 1990s.

Police investigated several thefts at Anacortes marinas this week. Stolen were part of a navigational radar unit aboard one boat, a flat-screen TV on another boat. And, a Boston Whaler disappeared from a dock.

The weekend's top movie here is clearly Avatar. And, it comes with nearly universal rave reviews. Also opening this weekend is Planet 51. And, two good films continue this weekend: The Blind Side and The Princess and the Frog. But, it's Avatar that is the must see.

Armed robbery suspect arrested

Anacortes Police arrested a 35-year-old Anacortes man for investigation of  two counts of armed robbery late Wednesday night in connection with two local armed robberies.  

Anacortes-built boat heads to America's Cup

The Anacortes-built BMW Oracle racing trimaran has left San Diego for Valencia, Spain, in preparation for the America's Cup in February. The trip will take about 3 weeks, depending on weather.

Tankers derailed at March's Point: no leaks

Several rail tanker cars loaded with liquefied petroleum gas derailed Monday night on March's Point. Burlington Northern said there were 2 injuries and no leaks.

New green fuel operation to open at Tesoro

A green jet fuel company says 14 airlines have agreed to buy renewal jet fuel derived from camelina that will be produced at the Tesoro refinery in Anacortes.

Accident kills construction worker on Guemes

A construction work was killed when a Guemes Island home he was working on collapsed and crushed him. The victim was identified as 57-year-old David Leep of Mount Vernon.
