Depot plaza paving completed

The Anacortes Farmers Market has moved onto the newly completed plaza adjacent to the Depot Arts Center. Market Manager Keri Knapp said everyone is happy with the new space, meanwhile plans move ahead to expand the brick-lined area.

Summer is heating up and so are all of your favorite vendors at the Anacortes Farmers Market.  We could not be more excited to have all of our vendors back at the market this season and a few newcomers.

Council rejects Hidden Shores

The City Council Wednesday night unanimously turned back a proposal to build a 13-home planned development in Skyline. The major problem was a requirement for a 50-foot buffer for a stream named Anaco Bourn.

New exhibit to open at the Maritime Heritage Center

A new exhibit featuring the historic schooner Wawona, which sailed Puget Sound opens later this month at the Maritime Heritage Center, next to the WT Preston snagboat.

Some suspicious devices were found on West Sixth St this week that flattened the tires of at least one vehicle that ran over them.

Shipwreck Day is a community favorite in Anacortes.  So many treasures to be found in downtown.  We'll have treasures galore at the Farmer's Market as well this week. 

Arch planned for trestle

A major art work is being planned for the trestle across Fidalgo Bay by the Anacortes Arts Festival. A sculpture by nationally-recognized artist Ries Niemi, who lives and works in Edison.

Register now for the Art Dash

You can register now for the annual Art Dash half-marathon, 10k and 5k races, set for July 31st. In its 5th year, the Art Dash has established itself in the northwest running scene. 

Star Bar closes its doors

The popular upscale restaurant Star Bar closed down over the weekend. A sign in the front window says, "The Star Bar is closed for business. We will continue to host special events and catering functions."

Anacortes Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after he eluded them in an 80-mile-per-hour chase on D Ave. last week He just didn’t want to be stopped by police, who ended up chasing him 3 times over 2 days.
