Tethys Enterprises has notified the city that it has ended plans for a huge bottling plant on Fidalgo Island. CEO Steve Winter wrote to Mayor Maxwell, “While it has been a very difficult decision given the years of dedication to this business concept, our decision to cease operations in Anacortes will be effective immediately."

The 34th America’s Cup got underway Saturday in San Francisco. Oracle Team USA finished behind Emirates Team New Zealand with a pair of close races in the team’s first official runs on the course.
