June 13
A 17-year-old Puyallup boy was cited for failure to yield the right of way after he turned in front of a vehicle being driven by an Anacortes woman at the intersection of 22nd Street and Commercial Avenue. The woman was traveling west on 22nd Street through the intersection and the teen was traveling east when he turned in front of her. There were no injuries.
An officer contacted two males who were arguing in the street in the 700 block of Commercial Avenue. One of the men had watery eyes, slurred speech, poor coordination, and smelled strongly of alcohol. He was determined to be 20 years old and had been arguing with his brother. The man admitted he had drunk three beers and that he knew he wasn’t supposed to be drinking. He was cited and released for underage drinking.
June 14
Officers were unable to locate two men approximately 50 years old that were reported to be urinating on the side of a building in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue.
A 34-year-old San Diego woman was arrested for drunk driving in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue after an officer stopped her for repeatedly not using her turn signal. The woman displayed the effects of drinking alcohol and she admitted that she had drunk two glasses of wine. The woman was placed under arrest and later said that she had drunk a bottle of wine. She provided two breath samples that were approximately one and a half times the legal limit. She was cited and released to a sober adult.
A man living in the 2000 block of M Avenue reported that someone had entered his house through an unlocked door and stole a computer, a cell phone, a knife set, and other items with an estimated value of approximately $1500. The resident was suspicious of some subjects he sold a car to the previous day. The incident is under investigation.
A motorcycle driven by a 52-year-old Burlington man struck the rear bumper of a pickup driven by a Lynnwood man after the pickup stopped for traffic in the 1600 block of 12th Street. The motorcycle attempted to swerve around the pickup to avoid a collision, but it struck the side of the pickup’s bumper. The motorcycle driver suffered contusions and a sore hip.
A 28-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a previous domestic violence assault after an officer stopped the car he was driving for a traffic offense on State Route 20 near Christianson Road. The man was also cited for not having a valid driver’s license and no insurance. He was booked into jail on the warrant.
Officers contacted a husband and wife in the 1600 block of K Avenue after receiving a report that the couple was having an argument in the roadway. Both parties had been drinking and the disagreement was only verbal. The 22-year-old man was found to have two warrants for his arrest for previous suspended driving offenses. He was booked and released on the warrants.
Officers responded to a house in the 2400 block of Forest Park Lane after receiving a report of a possible juvenile drinking party. Officers observed approximately 35 people inside of the house who appeared to be under 21 years old and numerous open alcohol containers. The 20-year-old resident allowed officers inside of the house. Numerous people fled out of windows, but officers arrested seven teens from Mount Vernon, Burlington, and Anacortes who exhibited the signs of drinking alcohol and admitted to drinking. The resident was cited for underage drinking and contributing to the delinquency of minors after he told officers that he had found the alcohol on the side of the road and decided to throw a party for his friends.
June 15
A 40-year-old Anacortes man received a cut below his eye and possible cheek bone damage as the result of being punched by another man in a parking lot behind a bar in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue. The victim said that he had met his former roommate and co-worker at a bar for a drink and that the roommate/co-worker was accompanied by an unknown man. The victim said that they all went outside to more privately discuss money the victim owed the former roommate, at which time the other two men punched and kicked the victim. The victim was reluctant to pursue charges and the matter is still under investigation.
A homeowner on Rosario Way reported a dead raccoon in her backyard. Animal Control was left a message for later retrieval of the animal.
June 16
A burglary was reported to a converted office building in the 1000 block of 30th Street. A door was forced open causing damage to the door frame and the burglars attempted to open a number of locked drawers and filing cabinets. An employee of the business later reported that several gift cards totaling over $750 were taken from the business.
A man reported that someone had cut and stolen the catalytic converter from the exhaust system of his pickup sometime during the previous night. The pickup was parked in the man’s driveway in the 900 block of 26th Street.
A 14-year-old boy reported he had lost his wallet containing approximately $80.00 in cash from somewhere between the Anacortes Middle School and the 1100 block of 32nd Street.
Vandals removed and stole the head to a skull-and-crossbones portion of a wooden sign at the new playground equipment at Storvik Park. The vandals also loosened the screws on the crossbone section of the sign. Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact the Anacortes Police Department.
June 17
School officials reported that a teenaged male, who was in the back yard of a residence in the 1400 block of 25th Street, dropped his pants and exposed his bare buttocks towards a group of school children who were outside at a nearby school. Officers responded to the house and identified the teen, although he had already left the residence. An officer later contacted the 16-year-old and took him to the school where he apologized for his behavior.
A 61-year-old Anacortes woman reported the theft of her wallet from a thrift store in the 1100 block of 3rd Street after she had accidentally left the wallet on a bench in a dressing room. Other customers in the store reported overhearing two women talking about finding a wallet in the dressing room, but the identity of the women was unknown and the wallet was not located in the store.
Officers responded to the report of a domestic disturbance at a house in the 900 block of 25th Street after a neighbor called 911 saying he heard yelling and doors slamming. Officers spoke with a man who said that another man and a woman who lived at the house had been involved in a fight but had already left. The involved man then returned home and told an officer that he had been attacked by his female roommate and another man when he refused to buy them illegal drugs. The man admitted that he had physically fought with the woman in self defense, and that the other man had kicked at him when he fell down. It appeared that all parties were intoxicated and the woman that fled also had a felony warrant for her arrest. The case has been forwarded to the City Prosecutor for possible charges.
June 18
A 15-year-old Anacortes boy was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant after an officer recognized the teen walking in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue. The teen was booked into Juvenile Detention on the warrant.
June 19
An officer stopped a car on Christianson Road near Highway 20 after watching the vehicle swerve in its lane of travel, cross the center line, and almost strike the center median on the highway. The driver was identified as a 22-year-old Bellingham woman who smelled of intoxicants and had watery eyes. The woman performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for drunk driving. The woman admitted to drinking “two glasses” of beer and she provided two breath samples that were over the legal limit. She was cited and released to a sober friend.
The Health Department requested assistance from APD’s Animal Control Officer in tying to locate a dog and its owner who were involved in a dog biting incident at a bar in the 400 block of Commercial Avenue. A 36-year-old Anacortes woman sustained a bite to her hand after being given permission by the dog’s owner to pet the animal. The dog’s owner is unknown but was reported to be in a wheel chair and using an oxygen bottle. The dog’s vaccination records need to be checked as the victim received treatment at the emergency room.
A woman reported her car had been hit and damaged while it was parked in the 500 block of Commercial Avenue. A witness left a note on the woman’s car describing the suspect vehicle, but the license number given did not match the vehicle description. The suspect has not been identified at this time.
A 32-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor warrants for previous forgery and check writing crimes. An off-duty officer recognized the man at Washington Park and he was arrested after leaving in a car a short time later. He was booked into jail on the warrants.
June 20
An officer stopped a car on Highway 20 near Reservation Road for not having functioning tail lights. The 26 year-old-driver was arrested for having a suspended driver’s license from a previous DUI arrest. A search of the man’s vehicle discovered drug smoking paraphernalia and a small baggy of a white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Drug and suspended driving charges are pending against the man.
A resident of the 1600 block of 6th Street reported that someone had cut up his garden hose.
