A driver who was arrested for DUI after crashing his vehicle was booked into county jail because it was his second DUI charge in ten years.
Anacortes Police Officers were dispatched to Anaco Beach Road just after 2:30AM Thursday, Nov. 7, to investigate a one-car motor vehicle crash. The driver called police to report that his car had some mechanical issues that caused him to drive off the road. Investigation on scene revealed that the older model SUV exited the roadway and traveled through several plants and rocks, striking them with enough force to trigger the airbags. Medics cleared the driver on scene and officers continued to speak with him to determine if he was under the influence because he smelled of alcohol and slurred his words when speaking. The driver took voluntary roadside tests, but seemed to have a difficult time following directions and keeping his balance. He was taken into custody for DUI and later provided a breath sample of approximately twice the legal limit to safely operate a motor vehicle. Since this was his second DUI arrest in less than 10 years, he was booked in the county jail on his charge.
