The Animal Control Officer on Wednesday set live traps to capture a mother cat and her kittens that may have been dumped in the area of Puget Way. The mother and two kittens were successfully captured and transported to the humane society. The reporting party called dispatch asking for help to capture the animals that may have been dumped in the area by someone who didn’t want them.

Just after 9AM on Saturday, an APD Corporal took an accident report involving two vehicles in the roundabout at D Avenue and 32nd Street. No one was injured, but the 69-year-old Portland, Oregon driver was given a ticket for improper passing on the left side. The driver attempted to go around the lead car on the left side, causing the crash.
An APD Officer responded to a loose dog call on Saturday afternoon. Before the officer arrived, Arts Festival staff captured the “flea-ing” suspect and returned him to its rightful owner.

Mid-afternoon on Sunday, an APD Officer was dispatched to the 900 block of 22nd Street per the report of a loud “boom.” Officers responded to an apartment building and spoke with two men in the area who said they were experimenting with items to see if they would explode. Officers took a spent firework as evidence and wrote an infraction to a 23-year-old male who lived in the apartment.
A local distillery representative contacted police to report that approximately $120 worth of product was tampered with or stolen from the business recently. The suspect may have entered through an unlocked window. There are no suspects.

A 23-year-old Anacortes woman admitted that she must not have been paying attention when she rear-ended a semi-truck pulling onto SR 20 from Marchs Point Road. The truck trailer was not damaged, but the pickup truck driven by the woman sustained reportable damage to the front end.
An APD Officer recognized a local 22-year-old man as having an arrest warrant out of Florida for Grand Theft Auto. Officers contacted the man early Monday afternoon in the 1500 block of Commercial Avenue. As they were speaking with him, he abruptly spun away from officers and jumped over the shrubbery directly behind him, then ran off towards O Avenue. Officers pursued the man on foot for a short distance and set up containment of the area after losing sight of him momentarily. He was later discovered while hiding in the bushes in the 1500 block of O Avenue. He was taken into custody on his warrant. When asked why he ran, the man said he wanted to see his family. A search incident to arrest yielded a methamphetamine pipe. The man faces additional charges of possession of drug paraphernalia as well as obstructing law enforcement. He was booked in jail on an investigative hold for his warrant and charges.

A 70-year-old Oak Harbor man was given a ticket for failure to yield after he misjudged the amount of time he would need when entering the roundabout at Sharpes Corner. He was struck by a pickup on the driver’s side, but was uninjured in the accident.
Just before 5PM on Tuesday, an APD Officer was dispatched to a two-car collision at 27th and Commercial. Both drivers told the initial officer on scene that they were experiencing minor pain, but declined medical attention. The driver at-fault was determined to be a local 28-year-old who pulled into the roadway and struck the vehicle driving on 27th Street with enough impact to turn it slightly to the side. Further investigation revealed that the-at fault driver’s license was suspended and she did not have insurance. She was issued infractions for no insurance and failure to yield and cited for driving while license suspended.

An APD Officer responded to a local retailer on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a shoplifting complaint. The Manager pointed the officer towards a woman, later determined to be a local 51-year-old, for attempted theft of a bottle of body spray. The woman asserted that she had purchased the bottle elsewhere. At the Manager’s request, the woman was banned from the store for one year.
An APD Officer pulled next to an older model luxury car on Wednesday evening, and noticed that a 42-year-old known to him was in the driver’s seat, so he pulled him over. When the officer called the man by name and said “your license is suspended,” the man admitted it and said he needed to turn in paperwork to the Department of Licensing. He was taken into custody for driving while license suspended, and later released from the scene.

Early Thursday morning, an APD Officer on patrol in the 4000 block of Oakes Avenue pulled an older model sports car over after discovering that the vehicle was sold in June, but the title was not transferred within the allotted 15-day period. The 18-year-old Granite Falls driver said he had not yet transferred the vehicle title into his name. The driver was also informed that his license was suspended, which came as a surprise to him. He was taken into custody, cited, and released after agreeing to await a licensed driver for his car.
