The sun shone briefly as Anacortes honored Veteran’s Day with a brief ceremony in Causland Park.

The rain held off, the wind was blowing, and the sun popped out a couple times as about 100 people honored America’s veterans on Tuesday.

Scouts from two local Boy Scout troops raised the American flag, Betsy Jane Mosley sang the National Anthem and Scout Tyler Oats lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Participants placed a wreath at the memorial in the park.

Veteran’s Day started out in 1918 as Armistice Day, as a tribute to the American dead of the First World War. In the 1950’s, Congress renamed it Veteran’s Day to honor all of America’s military veterans, living as well as dead.
