Monday Skagit Coronavirus Update

Skagit County Public Health reported on Monday five more positive cases of COVID-19 to 166 in the county. Meanwhile, Governor Inslee ordered schools to remain closed for the school year. I haven't seen any word on high school graduation ceremonies yet.

So far 21 people have been hospitalized in Skagit County. That's up two from the weekend. No new deaths have been reported. So, that number stays at four for the county.

Skagit County Public Health Officer Dr. Leibrand is recommending that face masks/coverings be worn in public and for any group gathering, including workplaces, to help prevent the spread of infection. Dr. Leibrand recommends that all protective measures should be used for any group gathering, and that wearing a mask is considered an additional layer of protection.

State Schools Superintendent Chris Reykdal said "Just as our great-grandparents understood after two World Wars and the Great Depression, this generation will grow up knowing how to persevere in the face of challenges.

"Especially during times of uncertainty, students need our support. They need grace, and structure, and routine. Even though the world may feel like it’s upside down, our students need to know that we will move forward."
