Busy time for Dakota Creek

2017 0904 ferries

Two ferries at Dakota Creek at the same time recently, with the Salish in the foreground and the Hyak being towed in by the tug Garth Foss.

The state ferry system has had a tough time keeping enough boats running this summer. Shortrly before the Hyak was towed to Dakota Creek last week, the Kittitas left the boatyard after repairs.

The 1967-built Hyak was on the San Juan Islands route when it cooling system problems hit, calling for installation of a new service generator.

The Salish ran aground into a sand bar while approaching the Coupeville dock recently and then crab pot lines were discovered tangled in the propulsion shaft.
