The City of Anacortes is seeking comments on proposed updates to the City’s critical areas regulations, which regulate certain activities and development in and near wetlands, streams, fish & wildlife habitat conservation areas, geologically hazardous areas, frequently flooded areas, and critical aquifer recharge areas.

The Growth Management Act (GMA) requires that the City periodically review, and revise if needed, critical areas regulations (RCW 36.70A.130). Updates are needed to the regulations to comply with the GMA, to allow for integration into the recently adopted Title 19, Unified Development Code, and to provide improved organization, clarity, and predictability.

The city's Planning, Community & Economic Development Department has prepared a first draft of proposed updates to the regulations. This and other information is available for review at the project Web page.

Comments and questions may be addressed to the project manager listed below. Please submit comments regarding the first draft by August 25, 2017.
