Port picks Dan Worra as new Exec

2015 0323 dan worraThe Port of Anacortes has announced plans to hire Daniel Worra to replace Bob Hyde as Executive Director of the Port.

Upon the successful completion of the Port’s hiring process, the Port Commission will appoint him at their regularly scheduled Commission meeting on April 2nd, the Port said Monday in a news release.

Mr. Worra is currently working for General Electric and will be transitioning into the position over the next month. He worked as the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island operations officer until his retirement from the Navy last year.

This announcement comes after a three-month search, working in cooperation with staff, and community partners to find a strong, transformative business leader who could quickly address the Port’s opportunities and challenges.

Worra has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in financial management from the Naval postgraduate

In his application for the new job, Worra said, “My many years of experience with both seaports and airports in dynamic situations has refined my leadership skills and provided me with the ability to thrive in challenging environments.”

Worra will replace John Hatchey, who was hired as interim executive director after Hyde was pushed out after eight years as executive director last November. Hyde has since joined the city of Mount Vernon as their community development director.
