DESCRIPTION:Roller skating was a huge hit in Anacortes in the early half of the 20th century. Many a kid, teen or young adult would spend an evening cruising around the roller rink with their friends or family. The earliest mention of roller skating in the city was in 1905 at a building called the Bowery on Cap Sante. The last mention was in 1954 with the Victory Roller Rink located in what is now the Anacortes City Hall building. The first of her kind built in the Northwest, The Valkyrie is the only Viking ship ever certified as an inspected passenger vessel by the US Coast Guard.
