The River that Made Seattle

Wed. Oct 26, 2022 6:00 pm

Through the story of Seattle’s Duwamish River, author BJ Cummings explores previously unrecorded Native and immigrant histories, and exposes settler falsehoods about the founding of the state. The river’s story is a call to action to align future decisions with values of collaboration, respect, and justice. Masks required at this event.

Anacortes PD drug take-back event

Sat. Oct 29, 2022 10:00 am

The Anacortes Police Department will host a drug take-back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, as part of the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This is the second event of its kind this year, with the first one, held in late April, bringing in more than 39 pounds of unneeded and unused prescription and over-the-counter medications.

Residents can bring their unneeded medications to the department lobby, located at 1218 24th St., and they will be disposed of properly and securely, ensuring these drugs are not stolen or misused. Prescription and over-the-counter medications are accepted, and drugs don’t need to be in their original packaging or containers. Sharps and needles are not accepted.

If anyone can’t make it to the Oct. 29 event, the Anacortes Police Department has a secure drug take-back receptacle in its lobby, open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday. Skidmore Pharmacy on 24th Street and Safeway both have similar receptacles here in town.

Call Community Service Officer Brent Lindquist at 360-588-8234 for more information.

@Rockfish: The Atlantics

Sat. Oct 29, 2022 7:30 pm

THE ATLANTICS - The Atlantics have been NW fixtures since 1979, and when you see these guys on stage, you can tell they still really enjoy what they’re doing! Carrying on the tradition of some of the greatest dance bands, The Atlantics play a mix of infectious popular music from Rhythm & Blues and Motown to hits from the 50’s 60’s 70’s & 80’s. Members of the group have also performed with such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, T-Bone Burnett, Chubby Checker, The Powder Blues Band and The New Deal Rhythm Band.
