@ Seafarers Park: Chris Eger Band & the Powerhouse Horns

Fri. Jul 30, 2021 6:00 pm

Very few musicians are said to be extraordinary examples of excellence in any one genre of music. Even fewer can be described as exceptional across multiple. When considering Chris Eger fits into the latter category as both a guitarist AND vocalist, it is no doubt an especially rare gift. Fronting his own band for close to a decade now, Chris has taken his game to a new level and a new town. When Nashville called, he answered, and this highly anticipated project was born. Eger and his longtime guitar-hero, and Nashville recording artist, Eric Heatherly, joined forces and have crafted an album that demands attention. Rock and Blues, Country, Funk and Soul collide in this modern take on vintage roots music. These are not overproduced, synthesized tunes created by a computer. This is raw, powerful, handmade – in the USA! The Chris Eger Band is: REAL. AMERICAN. MUSIC.

@ Deception Pass State Park: Miho & Diego

Sat. Jul 31, 2021 7:00 pm

This duo has been boldly blending L atino, Japanese and American musical traditions since 2006. Both accomplished musicians, Miho Takekawa and Diego Coy discovered their sounds could be combined to make something new and unique. The title of their debut CD, “Quenarimba,” combines the names of their primary instruments, the quena, a traditional Andean flute, and the marimba. July 31 — Miho & Diego. At Deception Pass State Park.

The series of eight free concerts takes place at 7 p.m. on Saturday evenings from July 10 through Aug. 28, at the park’s North Beach Amphitheater, 41020 WA-20, Oak Harbor. (Driving directions.)

The music series, now in its 15th year, resumes in person as Washington state begins to reopen for public events. Park staff request that concert goers cluster in groups of no more than 15 from two or fewer households and maintain 6 feet of distance from other groups. People who have not been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are encouraged to wear face coverings.

Thanks to generous support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Deception Pass State Park Foundation, and Island County, the concerts are free to the public, though day visitors will need a Discover Pass to park.
