We invite the community to visit Veterans Memorial Plaza at Seahawk Stadium this Memorial Day, and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

The plaza will be open to the public from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 29. No events are planned; rather we invite the community in for reflection and remembrance. The plaza is comprised of a memorial designed by local architect Brooks Middleton, with input from the Veterans Memorial Committee, as well as a display honoring two Medal of Honor recipients with local connections.

Independence Day Celebrations begins with the Patriotic Community Event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on July 3 at the Heart of Anacortes, the traditional town photo at 10:00 a.m. on July 4 at 5th & Commercial, the parade on July 4 beginning at 11:00 a.m., the Rock the Dock food and music event at Seafarer’s Park at 5:00 p.m. on July 4, and the fireworks show beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m. on July 4.

Celebrate our country's independence with great music, family fun, and fireworks at Rock the Dock! July 4th from 5-10 p.m. at Seafarers' Memorial Park.

There will be a FREE Bounce Castle, FREE face painting, and a FREE art table for the kids. Come enjoy tasty food and beverage vendors, beer garden with beer by Anacortes Brewery and of course fireworks. All proceeds from this year's beer garden will be donated to the Anacortes Family Shelter and The Boy's and Girls Club. Bring your lawn chairs and come join the fun. 

Rock the Dock is FREE - with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item or donation for the Anacortes Seafarers Memorial Foundation which is dedicated to supporting the families of those men and women who go down to the sea to work, those that are lost and the memorial they are remembered on.

On Sunday, Dec. 3rd, the focus will be on Gingerbread. Student and adult teams will test their creativity as they compete in decorating gingerbread houses for prizes and, of course, bragging rights. Gingerbread entries will be judged by a panel of community leaders. In addition, children of all ages will be able to decorate mini-houses of their own to take home. Open noon-4pm at the Port of Anacortes Events Center, foot of Commercial Ave. Sponsored by Anacortes Schools Foundation.

There will be no garbage service on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. We will collect both Wednesday and Thursday customers on Thursday, July 5, 2018.

Please have your garbage totes out for pick up by 7:00 a.m. Extra garbage must be placed in city pre-paid bags. Waste Management will follow our schedule for recycling and yard waste pickup.

Skagit Community Band Concert

Incantations and Dance, Fall under the spell of the Skagit Community Band as we perform songs, movie sound tracks and dances that celebrate the Fall season. No charge.

The Skagit Community Band has been performing in the Skagit Valley for more than 40 years. Its rich history includes playing for the opening of the “Rest Stop” on I-5 north of Burlington, to the ground breaking of McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon. The ensemble consists of members that believe in sharing and performing quality music. These musicians come from all walks of life and from all across the North Puget Sound including: Mount Vernon, Burlington, Bellingham, Anacortes, Sedro-Woolley, Whidbey Island, and La Conner. From September to June we rehearse once a week on Tuesday nights from 7:00-9:00 in the Anacortes H.S. band room. Our season consists of concerts performed in La Conner and Anacortes three times a year. We also support the community by sponsoring fundraisers for the local school music programs, In addition, we provide funding for instrument repairs and also purchase new instruments and equipment. The Skagit Community Band is a 501(3)(c) organization.

Well-known throughout the country and throughout the music industry, Tingstad & Rumbel won the Best New Age Grammy Award in 2003 in support of Acoustic Garden. Tingstads latest ensemble release, Southwest was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.

Eric Tingstad's latest CD - Mississippi went to #1 on the radio charts world Wide last July and came in at #2 in the Top 100 for the year. His CD was also Nominated for Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Album at the ZMR Music Reporter Awards held in New Orleans.

This performance is a fundraiser for the Rick Epting Foundation for the Arts whose mission is enhancing the quality of life in Skagit County and the surrounding area's through the arts and music.

The event will take place on Saturday evening, Dec. 1, at the Port of Anacortes Event Center, located at the north end of Commercial Ave. The evening will feature a delicious dinner catered by Gere-a-Deli, as well as a lively auction and, of course, an opportunity to support to important school district programs, including a 3-day experience for all 5th graders at North Cascades Institute. Christmas Tree Lighting

Come on down to the chamber building to celebrate the lighting of our crab pot Christmas Tree. There will be performances by local choirs and free pictures with Santa.

The Chamber of Commerce crab pot Christmas tree is an adornment that sets our island community apart! Located in historic downtown, this unique tribute to the town’s fishing heritage is decorated with ornaments from the Anacortes High School and topped with a bright orange octopus. On the first Friday of December, the tree is lit during the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. 

The night’s festivities include greetings by the Town Crier and the Mayor, songs and performances by children in the Anacortes School District, and Santa who arrives to light the tree and mark the beginning of the holiday season. Afterward, snap a photo or two with the jolly old elf, or stroll through downtown for dining, shopping, and the Holiday Art Walk.

Enjoy hot chocolate, delicious baked goods, see Park cabins lit up, pictures with Santa, Toys for Tots drop off location, write holiday letters to service men and women, and feel warmed by the fire. This family-friendly event supports and promotes the Deception Pass Park Foundation’s mission of resource protection through education. The Kiwanis Club Christmas tree pickup is scheduled for Saturday, January 5, 2019. This pick up is for city residents only. Have your tree on the curb by 7:00 a.m. January 5th. The tree must be clean (no wires, tinsel, flocking, etc.). Please consider a donation of a canned food with your tree or send a donation of $5 to the Anacortes Key Club, c/o The Kiwanis Shop, 420 “O” Avenue, Anacortes, WA 98221.

Veterans Memorial Plaza Open for Veterans Day

We invite the community to visit Veterans Memorial Plaza at Anacortes High School this Veterans Day and show appreciation to all the brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.  The plaza will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, November 11. No events are planned; rather we invite the community in for reflection and tribute. Restrooms will be open during this time. The plaza is comprised of a memorial designed by local architect Brooks Middleton, with input from the Veterans Memorial Committee, as well as a display honoring two Medal of Honor recipients with local connections. The Anacortes School District is closed on Monday, November 11.

This workshop is open to crafters of any skill level! Lisa Jackson will teach you to make a gratitude themed collage, just in time for the holidays. Registration is required, visit library.cityofanacortes.org to sign up. Supply kits will be available to registered attendees for pickup at the library the week before class.

Shine some light on the longest night of the year by creating a beautiful candle holder using natural materials in this free workshop. Lisa Jackson & Trish Wilson will guide you through the project step-by-step, and a supply kit for the class will be available for pickup the week prior to class.
