The owner of 2 pit bulls was issued a criminal citation for her dogs running at large and attacking a dog that was being walked by its owner.

Two pit bulls that were running loose in the 3900 block of M Avenue last Monday attacked a Chihuahua mix that was being walked by its owner on the sidewalk.  The Chihuahua suffered puncture wounds and abdominal bleeding before the victim dog owner’s neighbor was able to pull the pit bulls off.  The Chihuahua later had to have surgery.  The pit bulls then ran away before officers later located them running loose in the 1200 block of 38th Street.  The pit bulls were taken to the pound.  The Animal Control Officer later identified their owner as a woman who lived in the 4000 block of H Avenue.  The woman was issued a criminal citation for both of her dogs running at large and informed that the process had started for having her dogs declared potentially dangerous.

Friday, May 7

A man living in the 1000 block of 22nd Street reported that his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend had stolen a large quantity of adult videos and a key to his motorcycle from his home while he had been away at work.  The woman had been staying with the man for a couple of days, but was expected to leave his home while he was at work.  Officers located the woman at a motel room in the 2000 block of Commercial Avenue.  A man renting the room consented to a search, and officers located a backpack belonging to the woman that contained the stolen videos.  Three baggies of marijuana were also found in the backpack.  The woman was in possession of the missing key.  She was placed under arrest and she admitted that she had taken the videos as an act of “retribution.”  She also admitted that the marijuana was her property.  The woman was issued a citation for theft and possession of marijuana and released. 

An employee getting off work at a medical facility in the 1200 block of 24th Street discovered a plastic pry bar on her vehicle’s trunk lid.  There was nothing missing from the car nor did the officer find any evidence that the pry bar had been used to attempt to break into the car.    

Saturday, May 8

Someone entered an unlocked car parked in the 600 block of 34th Street and stole approximately 50 musical CD’s.  The theft occurred sometime during the night and the suspect is unknown.

Another vehicle that had been left parked unlocked in the 600 block of L Avenue was also prowled during the night.  Stolen from inside was the stereo faceplate valued at $30.     

A resident of the 3600 block of W. 5th Street returned from vacationing and discovered some tools were missing from his garage.  The victim told police that he had left a garage door unlocked.  Missing from inside was a DeWalt cordless drill valued at $225 and a DeWalt orbital sander valued at $80. 

A 17-year-old Anacortes boy was cited for negligent driving after the he lost control of the SUV he was driving and hit a trailer parked in a yard in the 1500 block of J Avenue.  Excessive speed was a factor in the accident.  Neither the driver nor a 17-year-old passenger in the vehicle were injured. 

A stereo faceplate valued at $200 was stolen form a car parked at a home in the 1500 block of 7th Street.  The victim’s neighbor had noticed the dome light was on, and when the victim checked the car he found a door ajar and the faceplate missing.  The suspect is unknown at this time.   

Sunday, May 9

A 40-year-old Sedro-Woolley man was arrested for domestic violence assault after a witness saw him allegedly push his girlfriend behind a motel in the 1100 block of 6th Street.  Officers spoke with the girlfriend initially who confirmed the man had pushed her during the course of an argument before he rode away on a bicycle.  Officers located the man after he rode his bike to an elementary school in the 1200 block of M Avenue.  The man admitted to pushing the woman, but said that he hadn’t pushed her “hard.”  He was placed under arrest and booked into jail.   

Monday, May 10

A 20-year-old Fidalgo Island man was arrested on Heart Lake Road after an officer confirmed the man had three outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Skagit County District Court.  The warrants were for previous crimes of domestic violence assault, underage drinking, and driving without a valid license.  He was booked into the county jail. 

Officers responded to the ball fields in the 1800 block of 13th Street after witnesses reported an intoxicated man trying to drive from the parking area.  He reportedly drove over curbs, into and out of a ditch, and drove on the wrong side of the road.  The 40-year-old Anacortes resident smelled extremely of intoxicants and his speech was almost incomprehensible.  Based on the man’s apparent level of intoxication, he was transported to the emergency room.  While at the hospital, the man told an officer he loved him and tried to kiss the officer’s hand when the officer tried to get the man’s signature.  The man consented to giving a blood sample and faces possible charges of DUI upon return of the blood analysis results.  

A 12-year-old Anacortes boy who was riding a bicycle suffered a possible broken arm after he was struck by a car driven by a 78-year-old Anacortes man at the intersection of 22nd Street and M Avenue.  The car been northbound on M Avenue and had stopped at the stop sign.  The car then began to move forward and struck the boy who was crossing eastbound through the crosswalk.  The man was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way. 

A backpack containing books and school supplies belonging to a 12-year-old Burlington girl was stolen from the back of a pickup parked in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue.  Entry into the pickup had been made by opening the tailgate.  The stolen items, minus the backpack, were found behind a building in the area the following day. 

Officers responded to a home in the 1200 block of 32nd Street after an anonymous caller reported what appeared to be a teenaged male carrying a gun.  Officers subsequently spoke with a 12-year-old boy who had been outside with a toy gun.  No crime was committed and the boy’s mother disposed of the toy. 

Tuesday, May 11

An 18-year-old Anacortes man was charged with reckless driving after an officer used radar to calibrate the speed of the man’s car at 66 mph in a 25 mph zone in the 2100 block of R Avenue.  There were also pedestrians in the area.  The driver told the officer that he thought he had been “going 70” and that he had not yet bought insurance on the car.  The driver was also issued a ticket for having no insurance.  

A man who had parked his SUV in a parking lot in the 900 block of 11th Street returned to the vehicle and found that it had been hit by an unknown vehicle.  The rear bumper had been dented and the damage was estimated at $500.00. 

A 20-year-old Bellingham woman was issued a citation for underage drinking and possession of marijuana after an officer contacted her and two of her friends on the side of the road in the 4500 block of Oakes Avenue.  The officer had seen the women arguing on the side of the road before getting into a car driven by a fourth woman.  The other women were over 21, but the 20-year-old smelled strongly of alcohol and had very poor balance.   She fell backwards into a ditch at the side of the road while trying to give a portable breath test sample.  The officer helped her up and placed her under arrest.  A small amount of marijuana was located inside of the woman’s purse.  The woman admitted to having “5 or 6” drinks and owning the marijuana.  She was released after signing her citation.

A 41-year-old woman allegedly got upset with her husband at their home in the 900 block of 25th Street after he informed the woman’s daughter that the woman had started drinking again.  The woman then allegedly knocked some silverware off the kitchen counter and grabbed her husband’s arm and bit him on the wrist.  The husband had fresh visible bite marks on his wrist.  The woman was found walking a few blocks away and was taken into custody.  She admitted to getting mad at her husband, but she denied biting him.  She was booked into jail on the charge of domestic violence assault.   

Wednesday, May 12

A Huffy brand 10 speed mountain bike valued at $75 was stolen from the laundry room of an apartment building in the 900 block of 4th Street.  The laundry room was unlocked and the bike was not secured.  There are no suspects. 

A red Toro brand “Personal Pace” lawnmower was stolen from an open area between two homes in the 4000 block of W. 3rd Street sometime during the previous week.  The lawnmower was valued at $350. 

An officer recognized the passenger in a vehicle in the 1000 block of 12th Street as a 38-year-old Anacortes man who had a $5,000 bail felony warrant for his arrest.  The warrant stemmed from a previous arrest for possession of a controlled substance.  The man was taken into custody and booked into jail.  

An officer recognized a 42-year-old woman outside of an apartment in the 1100 block of 27th Court who had recently been arrested for a domestic violence crime and confirmed that a no-contact order was in effect that prohibited the woman from being at the apartment.  The woman quickly entered the apartment when she saw the officer.  When the officer knocked on the door, a child answered and told the officer that the woman was not going to come out.  An officer was able to speak with the woman through a window and convinced the woman to allow officers to enter the apartment.  The woman was then placed under arrest and booked into jail on the charge of violating a pre-trial no-contact order. 

Thursday, May 13

A 24-year-old Anacortes man was arrested in Anacortes Municipal Court after it was discovered that he also had a felony warrant for failing to appear in Superior Court for a previous possession of a controlled substance charge.  He was booked into jail. 

A 29-year-old Anacortes man was arrested at an apartment in the 800 block of 29th Street on a $105,000 bail felony warrant for a previous second degree assault charge.  Police had been trying to locate the man for several days.  He was booked into the county jail. 

Officers responded to the report of a fight in progress at the skate park involving two 15-year-old Anacortes boys.  One of the boys was upset with the other for allegedly stealing money from him and reportedly punched the other boy several times in the face and then kicked him in the head when the other boy was on the ground.  The boy had a bloody nose and a cut and swelling above his eye.  Parents were called to the scene and possible criminal charges are pending. 

A 50-year-old woman was arrested at a home in the 700 block of Q Avenue after she argued with her mother and allegedly became so enraged that she grabbed two plates from a cupboard and smashed them.  The woman had retuned home intoxicated and began yelling at her mother prior to breaking the dishes.  She was booked into jail on charges of domestic violence malicious mischief. 

Officers responded to the report of a possible fight at a home in the 1500 block of Burrrows Court after a neighbor reported hearing yelling and breaking furniture.  Officers entered the home and found a 24-year-old woman hiding in a closet.  The woman told officers that she was hiding because she and her 26-year-old boyfriend had argued and she was afraid that he was going to assault her.  The boyfriend was found sitting on the floor of the bedroom and was highly intoxicated.  A glass topped table in the living room had been broken to pieces and the boyfriend admitted that he had smashed the table in anger.  The boyfriend was arrested and booked into jail on domestic violence malicious mischief charges. 

Friday, May 14

An officer recognized a 22-year-old man who formerly lived in Anacortes walking in the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue and was aware the man had two warrants for his arrest including a warrant from Island County for a previous possession of drug paraphernalia charge.  The man was arrested on the warrants and a small amount of marijuana was found in his pocket during a search of his person.  The man said that he “forgot” he had the marijuana.  The man was issued a citation for possession of marijuana, but the Island County jail declined to accept the man for booking on the warrant.  He was then released.
