Development Regs review started

The City Council Thursday formally started its review of requests for changes to the city’s Development Regulations.

The City Council’s Planning Committee, chaired by Council member Cynthia Richardson, met Thursday morning to start a formal review of proposals for zoning changes and changes to the laws governing zoning and development in Anacortes.

Richardson and fellow committee member Erica Pickett met with city Planning Director Ryan Larsen, who had laid out a list of proposals from local residents and business people. Absent was Council member Bill Turner.

Larsen pointed out that the city had extended its March 6 deadline for change requests to March 31. Larsen also said he’d like to move deadlines up earlier for next year’s review to give the Planning Department more time to go though the requests.

He said he’d like to allow 60 days for filing request for changes, with a closing date at the end of this year, allowing him an additional 3 months or so next year.

Meantime, the items reviewed Thursday will go to the City Council next month for a preliminary review. Those that pass muster there, will go to the Planning Commission for a more thorough review, then move back to the City Council for a complete review.
