Learn about your old house

The Anacortes Historic Preservation Board has set a program for this Saturday to help homeowners here research the history of their old home. It’s part of an ambitious plan by the Board for 2009.

Want to know who originally owned your house? This weekend’s program can help you discover who built your home, when it was built and whether it has always a private dwelling. Find out how to get the answers to these questions and more during our workshop on researching the history of your house.

Find out how you can be part of the Anacortes House History Program and receive a plaque that identifies the date your house was built and its original owners.

Participants in Saturday’s program, at the library, will help the Historic Preservation Board select a plaque style. Several styles of plaque will be on display at the workshop. You can vote for your favorite. The winning design will serve as the plaque designating historic Anacortes houses.

All are invited, no matter what the age of your house. However, to qualify for the Anacortes House History and Plaque Program, your house must be at least 60 years old.

The workshop, at the library, is at 1pm Saturday and will run about one hour and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions.
