Island Hospital is set to dedicate it’s new $40 million remodel and renovation with a public ceremony Tuesday evening at the new lobby entrance.

Workers recently wrapped up work on the second phase of the project. The second phase includes a larger birthing suite, a larger front lobby, a new chapel and larger cafeteria.

The birthing suite has been expanded from 1,000 square feet to more than 5,000 square feet and added two labor rooms and two outpatient rooms. Before renovation, the birthing suite had four patient rooms. They’ve added jetted tubs and baby heart monitor equipment.

The first phase of the renovation, which was completed in September, included a new emergency room, privatized bedrooms and diagnostic imaging facilities.

The hospital now has 10 rooms for intensive care, expanded from six.

The expansion project will be dedicated at a ceremony on Tuesday, July 1, at 5:30 pm, with the formal dedication at 6 pm. It will take place adjacent to the reopened main entrance on 24th Street.
