Police stage Drug Take-Back Day

Area Law Enforcement agencies will be open from 10:00 a.m., to 2:00 p.m., this Saturday for “Drug Take-Back Saturday.”  Each Police Department and the Sheriff's Office will open their doors to people who want to safely dispose of over-the-counter, and prescription medications.

Each Police Department currently accepts prescription and nonprescription medication for disposal during normal business hours. The Saturday event is part of a national “Drug Take Back” effort sponsored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency.  Properly disposing of unused medication ensures it will not be misused, stolen, or improperly disposed of.

In the five previous Take-Back events, DEA in conjunction with our state, local, and tribal law enforcement partners have collected more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications were removed from circulation.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

The Anacortes Police Station is at 1218 24th St.
