The city has been offered a $52,000 grant to go towards building a new little league field at Ace of Hearts Park on H Ave. City Parks & Forest Lands manager Jonn Lunsford told the City Council this week, “We had a grant opportunity kind of fall in our lap here."
He said the city had applied for a grant from the Washington state Recreation and Conservation Office in 2007. He said they listed the city as an alternate recipient. He said, "We have apparently moved up the list."
Total cost for the little league field is estimated at $108,000, so the city will need to come up with $56,000. Lunsford said he thinks city partners in the project, the Anacortes Rotary Club, the Anacortes Little League and others, will contribute nearly $30,000. He added that the remainder is achievable in donated labor and materials.
