Workers put the finishing touches on a new pocket beach park at the north end of O Ave. The park project by the Port of Anacortes involved removing 103 creosote pilings, an old concrete bulkhead and other rubble.

In it's place is a concrete viewing area with benches, steps to the rocky beach and new plantings. During the cleanup process along Railroad Ave., which runs from Commercial Ave. to O Ave., an area contaminated with old fuel was discovered on the beach.

The beach is now rock, clean sand and riprap made of large rocks to protect the shoreline. The concrete pad has the same blue glass concrete the Port used on a picnic area at Cap Sante Marina.

A new feature of the cleanup involved the installation of planting areas with plans and native grasses along the north side of the warehouse leased to Puget Sound Rope. Three large watering cans are attached to downspouts and aimed at the planting areas.
