Anderson resigns from School Board

2009-0624_chris_anderson.jpgCiting “personal issues,” Chris Anderson has submitted his resignation to the Anacortes School Board. Anderson was first elected to the school board in November, 2003.

Anderson told Anacortes Now that he has been invited to become a member Board of Directors of the Trinity Lutheran College in Everett. He said “All my kids are in college now and it’s becoming difficult to devote time to duties here.” He said he would, however, remain an Anacortes resident.

His letter of resignation, which will be up for School Board action at their meeting Thursday night. says “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the board. In 35 years, working with over 15 different school districts, Anacortes is far and above any district where I have worked before.”

Anderson explained that he has moved often during his military service, which included service in the Coast Guard, Marine Corps and as an Army Chaplain.

Anderson has both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education.

After advertising for a replacement, the School Board can appoint someone to replace him until the next general election in November. A representative from the county Auditor’s Office, which handles elections, is expected to be at the School Board meeting Thursday night to outline the election process to fill out Anderson's term, which runs 2 more years.
