Police Chief Bonnie Bowers said Thursday that police have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of scamming local residents for the last few weeks. The police issued a warning about the man earlier this week.

Bower said that 20-year-old Derick A. Halstead was arrested this morning for theft in the 3rd degree. She said, "Tips from an alert citizen lead police to his location."

Officers had been receiving complaints for about 3 weeks that the clean cut, smooth talking young man was going door to door offering to do yard work but convincing residents he was desperate and needed to be paid in cash for various reasons. Halstead would leave with his payment and not return to do the work.

Bower said "Halstead apologized for his behavior when arrested and said he would work to pay every victim back."
