The Anacortes Police are looking for a 20 year old man they call a scam artist who, they say, has been taking advantage of the good graces and compassion of Anacortes residents in the past few weeks.
Police suspect Derick Andrew Halstead in a series of incidents where a man approaches a homeowner, provides a hard-luck story, then offers to do manual labor or some other odd job for payment. Then the man takes the money and leaves before completing the job. The police said thefts have been discovered after he left.
The Police Department release said "The Anacortese Police would like to remind you to be wary in allowing strangers into your homes, loaning your vehicles, or providing money to persons with whom you are unfamiliar."
The Police provided a 4 year old photo of Halstead and ask that anyone with information or who has been victimized should call the Anacortes Police via 911 or the police tip line at 299-1985.
