Burglars broke into Anacortes High School very early last Saturday
morning and vandalized several doors after they disabled the alarm
system and video cameras. Police released this video.
The Anacortes Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred at the high school around 1am Saturday, Jan. 30th when a motion alarm detected activity inside of the school.
The Police are searching for the suspects.
Security video showed two unknown individuals wearing camouflage clothing and paintball style masks inside of a school building. It is believed that the suspects used a key to access the building. The suspects also had knowledge of the alarm system as they are seen on video using the alarm keypad to disable the system.
After entering the school, the suspects broke and disabled several video cameras. The suspects also damaged some ceiling tiles when they disabled the cameras. They then removed and vandalized several doors that were discovered leaning against the auditorium stage in a displayed fashion.
School officials said nothing was taken in the incident.
Anyone with any possible suspect information is asked to call the Anacortes Police Department at 360-293-4684, or the Anacortes Police tip-line at 360-299-1985.
Trespassing is a crime written by Kenneth , April 02, 2010
Don't think that just because there was nothing taken that this is a "harmless" prank. Security was violated and a crime was commited. You can call it puffery if you want to but the facts remain, the school was attacked and vandalized and the students had malicious intent.

You seem to be quite right Benjamin. Even the "vandalism" that these "burglars" did, was relatively harmless. This article simply said that the doors were "vandalized," so you would imagine that serious damage was done to these doors, when rather, they were merely taken off their hinges. No irreversable or monetary damage happened. No doubt this misinformation, as you said, is a result of puffery on the school's part. It appears that this is simply a harmless senior prank, and police intervention was completely unnecessary.

Tresspassing, perhaps. Burglary, definately not.
As stated in a legal dictionary, "Burglary does not necessarily consist of the taking of property, although the intent to steal can upgrade a criminal charge from trespassing to burglary." Nothing was taken, and the intent of the vandals was not to steal, so the crime, if this is a crime at all, is merely tresspassing. Perhaps the school administration is utilizing puffery as a deterrent. I believe our news stations and community websites should filter commentary with so many connoted words.
