Shell Refinery Manager Sue Krienen (second from right) presents a check for $10,000 to Trestle committee representatives, including Anacortes Parks Foundation Treasurer David Hall; City Council member Brad Adams; fundraising chair Michele Pope and vice-chair Kris Lytton.

In addition to the check, Krinen said "We have 50 people ready to pound nails or do whatever needs to be done" to get the trestle rebuilt. Currently, Culbertson Maarine is in the process of removing and/or cutting off about 90 burned pilings and removing as much as 150 tons of debris.

Fundraising chair Michele Pope says more than $100,000 has been raised, with another $40,000 or so pledged. The unofficial goal is around $300,000.

Fire destroyed part of the trestle last October, forcing the closure of a popular walking and biking trail across Fidalgo Bay. While the fire was labeled human-set, no suspect has been identified.
