Search party & vigil for Keith Anderson Print
By Art Shotwell
January 13, 2010

A grassroots search party is being organized to look for popular retired Anacortes High School counselor Keith Anderson, who has been missing for a week. And, a candlelight vigil is planned for Wednesday night.

Brian Geer, the local Red Cross director, is organizing a search party to look for Anderson and his pickup truck. In a Facebook posting , Geer said, "The goal will be to drive the shoulders and check side roads, restaurant parking lots and park and rides." He's asking volunteers to meet at Penguin Coffee at 8:30 Saturday morning.

Other friends of Anderson are organizing a candlelight vigil for 6 pm Wednesday night (Jan. 13) at Causland Park.

Anderson left Anacortes on January 6 to meet an acquaintance in the Arlington area driving a white 1999 Ford Ranger pickup, Wash. license plate B0811F. The truck is described as a standard cab pickup with a matching white canopy.

The Anacortes Police Department has issued a statewide notice to be on the lookout for Anderson's truck. The missing person's report indicates Anderson has a history of medical problems, including high blood pressure and depression. He apparently left without medications.

His disappearance has caused an outpouring of sentiment here on Anacortes Now.

A poster who identified herself as Sarah Wagner writes, "Dr. Andersonn You were always such an inspiration to those of us at AHS. You are an amazing person and touched so many lives... Please come home safe and sound. We will be praying for you and your safe return!"

Another Anacortes Now poster says, "20 years later, I can clearly see your office, a zen sanctuary before I knew what zen was. I see your kind face telling me this was a safe place. And it was, not only safe but healing. I can't imagine my life without the impact of your help over the years. I hope to see your kind face again soon. You are loved by so many."

Landon says "Whatever it is that you are going through, just know there are many people here that care deeply for you. Please come home to the ones that love you!"

Just a sampling of the comments that are came after the report of Anderson's disappearance.

our father who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven
give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil
amen

take care of Keith Anderson Lord and please bring him home safely to his loved ones
